Compassionate Care Home Health Services, Inc. is pleased to announce our participation in the Brain Injury Association of Michigan's 29th Annual Conference. This will be Compassionate Care's fourth time as a bronze sponsor.

Join us for the nation’s largest brain injury conference. The purpose of this two-day conference is to provide state-of-the art information about brain injury treatment and therapies, which will foster maximal rehabilitation and a good quality of life. This conference is designed to benefit persons engaged in therapies with persons recovering from injury as well as caregivers and persons with brain injury.

Keynote Speakers for the 2009 Conference include Brent E. Masel, M.D. and Al Condeluci, Ph. D.

Brent Masel, M.D. is the President and Medical Director of the Transitional Learning Center at Galveston. Dr.Masel received his Medical Degree from the Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine, and completed his postgraduate training from the University of Texas Medical Branch. He has conducted research and is published in the areas of brain injury rehabilitation and virtual reality, sleep abnormalities, metabolic abnormalities, and hormonal dysfunction after brain injuries. Mr. Masel is the President of the United Way of Galveston, and on the Board of Directors of BIA of America. He is the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Brain Injury Association of Texas and the Innovations in Clinical treatment Award from the North American Brain Injury Society.

Al Condeluci, Ph.D received his Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Youngstown State University, his Masters in Social Work and Ph.D. in Education from the University of Pittsburgh. Since 1973, he has worked as an attendant, caseworker, advocate, planner, program director and now, CEO of his organization, UCP/CLASS of Pittsburgh. UCP/CLASS has created a family of corporations and is dedicated to its mission- “working towards a community where each belongs.” UCP/CLASS, under Al’s leadership, has grown to become the 3rd largest disability specific agency in Southwestern PA with a budget of $25 million and a staff and payroll complement of 650. Since 1975, Al has emerged as a national leader and consultant on human services and community issues. He speaks annually to national and international audiences reaching some 15,000 people each year. His books, Interdependence (1991, 1995, CRC Press), Beyond Difference (1996, CRC Press), The Essence of Independence (1999, Siegle Agency) and Cultural Shifting (2002, TRN Press) have won praises and awards for their thoughtful approach to culture and community and are now used at many colleges, universities and in-service settings.

The Brain Injury Association is a nonprofit organization that provides support, education, advocacy and research for those affected by traumatic brain injury. Incorporated in 1981, the BIA of Michigan was one of the first state associations chartered by the Brain Injury Association of America. 

The mission of the Brain Injury Association of Michigan is to enhance the lives of those affected by brain injury through education, advocacy, research, and local support groups; and to reduce the incidence of brain injury through prevention. 

The Brain Injury Association of Michigan's vision is to be recognized as a strong, viable, voluntary health agency providing leadership on traumatic and acquired brain injury through a broad range of services, and supporting research on brain injury treatment.
