Detours. No one wants to deal with them, yet we all come across them. I started dealing with one this week. The road commission is replacing culverts and repaving a nearly 3 mile section of my road. As it would happen, it’s the section of road in front of my house that I travel daily for work. This new detour has added 10 minutes of extra travel to my commute in each direction.
But not all detours are travel-related. What about the life detours in general? Many are minor. For example, how many times have you walked to the washing machine to do a load of laundry and noticed something else that needed to be done? Then stopped to do that new task? My mom calls those “email kinds of days.” Years ago when email chains were popular, she received an email that told of the hilarious attempt at completing a task, only to be sidetracked by a million other tasks that the storyteller came across. By the end of the day, the storyteller never did complete the original task. Detours happen all the time, even when writing blog articles.
We can all handle travel detours and “email kinds of days” without any major issue. Inconvenient? Absolutely. But manageable. The detours that we need help with though, are the ones that affect our health. Accidents. Surgery. Illness. Disease. Some of these detours, such as some surgeries, are planned ahead of time. But what about the ones that are unexpected? What about heart attacks, or auto accidents, or new disease diagnoses? Those are detours in life that require extra help.
Private duty home care is a rapidly growing industry that provides extra help during life’s major detours. Caregivers can assist clients during surgery recovery by assisting with physician’s orders, activities of daily living (ADL’s), and more. Auto accidents can leave clients with life altering changes. Sometimes these changes may require caregiver assistance for life. These are the detours in life where private duty home care for seniors can help.
Prepare yourself before detours happen. Having the knowledge of what private duty home care can do for you, what your long-term insurance policy will cover, and what road you need to take will make life’s major detours a little more bearable.
